Why Every Service Provider Needs a Personal Brand
You’re an entrepreneur. You work so dang hard to create and provide stellar service. Your to-do’s are literally endless. So who am I to tell you that you need to add something else to the list?! Here’s the truth: if you are a service provider and have not established a personal brand you are missing out on potential clients. If you are a service provider you NEED a personal brand.
Why?
The overwhelming majority of people are finding service providers online. Sometimes this may come from a referral but many times it comes from a Google or social media search. When we search we are then inundated with 50+ pages worth of results! How do we decide who to work with? A little bit of luck or chance. And a little bit of internet stalking.
I know I’m not the only one who finds a service provider, clicks through their website (especially their About and Services pages), and then immediately searches their social media. I want to know who I am signing up to work with, if I think I could like them, what I can expect, if our values line up, and if I want to give them my dollars.
If you don’t have a personal brand, I’m not going to choose you.
I’m not choosing you. Here’s why:
If you don’t have a personal brand then I’m coming to your website and I see what you do and how much it costs. You have been reduced to just a service and a transaction. Maybe I can book a call with you. But do you think I’m booking a call with someone I know absolutely nothing about? Not a chance. There might be a time and a place for the bare bones. There will be some people who would prefer to skip all the “extras” and just go with the cheapest or most convenient option. But the majority of the time, consumers want context!
Your Services Are Only Part Of Your Biz
Your services are just one part of who you are and what you do. Those services may be the main offering of your business, but they aren’t the entirety of it. There is something to be said about the way people feel when they come into your spaces and learn about you.
Additionally, if you have a personal brand established then as your business shifts and grows and changes you have a hub for all of it! For example, when I first started, my website hosted my blog. Then as I began offering freelance services my website expanded to include my Services page. Then as I developed my course my website expanded yet again to inform people about that. Throughout all of that, potential clients were able to find my site, learn about me, find out why I got into business, identify how I could support them, etc. My social media has become an extension of all of that too. Each of those items is just one column underneath the umbrella of my personal brand. And in the future, if I wanted to expand my services or offers or products then I could do that! My personal brand gives me that flexibility and freedom because I am more than just a service!
What Can You Do?
If you are a service provider and you do not have a personal brand, there are a few things I would recommend.
- Sign up for my VIP Club right now. I know that is a shameless plug, but this offer will be insanely helpful for you. Not only will you get access to my course and workbook, but I will meet with you (and a few other female entrepreneurs) each week for about 3 months to help you actually create the content that establishes your personal brand. So instead of just talking about how this is something you should do, we are going to do it! Together. Seriously, if you are a service provider and you haven’t spent time establishing your personal brand, sign up today.
(Sign-ups are open through the end of April. It is only $299 to enroll. There are 7 spots left. If you want to learn more, read this post.)
- If signing up for that is not an option, this is where I want you to start: identify these 4 things:
- What brought you to your business? Why do you do what you do?
- Who is your ideal client? Know them deeply, down to their fears and hesitations.
- How does what you offer serve that person well? Why do they need you?
- What does that ideal client need to hear from you?
All of those questions should inform basically everything about your business. And I mean that. Your colors, your mission, your services, your offers, your social media posts. It all stems from the pillars of your personal brand and supports it across your platforms.
If you’re having a hard time answering those questions or seeing why they’re important, all the more reason to enroll in The Storytelling Advantage VIP Club. 😉
If you’re going to do the hard work of being an entrepreneur and offering kick butt services, let’s make sure you’re getting the biggest bang for your buck. Establishing your personal brand will do exactly that.
With so much love and gratitude
